TUSKAN

Tuskan (aka Rory) is a UK based Artist, Producer and DJ, creating and playing Jungle Drum & Bass. Future driven but foundation focused, Tuskan’s influences run deep into the roots of the genre, inspired by old tape packs and radio recordings collected from when he and the genre were both in their infancy. The science fiction soundscapes would be the catalyst for a life time obsession, forever chasing those bass-driven, forward-thinking sonics. That thirst to create and make his mark on the genre has already seen his dubplates and releases supported by some of the scenes most respected taste-makers. This includes exclusive air play on BBC Radio 1 by René LaVice, Doc Scott (Metalheadz/31 Records), Ray Keith (including a release on his legendary label, Dread Recordings) and Carasel, who has been instrumental in pushing Tuskan’s biggest releases to date on his own AFT Records imprint.

Tuskan’s sound is bass heavy and bashy. Combining original funk breaks with harder drums, and heavily synthesised basslines, with echos from the tech-step era, that bridged the sample-laden mid ‘90s jungle with modern studio techniques. Citing Dillinja, Full Cycle crew (that Bristol sound!), Ulterior Motive, DLR, Perez, Optical/Virus Records (circa ’98-99) and even Randall’s DJ sets, as the most influential to his sound. His tracks and studio techniques continue that ethos of old vs new: flicking between a mix of retro and modern analogue synths with new cutting edge digital instruments to maximum effect.

Tuskan’s DJ performances draw from all corners of the Jungle Drum & Bass spectrum. Longer drawn out blends collide with fast-paced, 3 deck technical sections. Tuskan’s rise from local DJ talent, to crossing international boarders to showcase his own sound, make him an exciting artist to follow on his journey.

His passion is as infectious as his music. With releases starting to stack up on a variety of labels and bookings for some of the UKs best festivals, the 2020’s will see Tuskan continue to scratch his own mark on the genre.
