SONOROUS BOSCH

Biography

LIVE IMPROVISED MODULAR TECHNO

Matt Ward (Matt Vinyl) and Chris Pratt (Random Tangent/An Earth Without People) individually compose and produce a range of genres including ambient soundscapes, electro, house, breakbeat and techno. Under their Sonorous Bosh moniker though they focus on a more industrial leaning flavour of Detroit techno and electro. They perform hardware sets based around their modular systems, drum machines from their vintage collections and bespoke devices they have developed themselves. Taking a completely improvised approach to performance Sonorous Bosch sets are entirely unique. Systems are re- patched live and sequences are programmed from scratch and evolve viscerally as the performance develops with feedback from the audience. Sonorous Bosch sets are about creating a temporal experience that is as unique as the systems used to perform them. Expect dark atmospheres and alien percussion ratcheting and jerking around a backbone of thundering kick drums and driving acid lines.

Sonorous Bosch formed to provide an outlet for the music that Chris and Matt have been passionate about since first getting involved in the electronic music scene in the 90s as DJs. The pair are the founders of Plymouth’s Electronic Music Weekender, a series of events featuring performances, installations and lectures focussed on innovative approaches to music composition and performance with a strong emphasis on modular synthesis.

They have been teaching together at dBs Music for the last decade. Their work at dBs gives them plenty of time to focus on cutting edge technology and hardware approaches to composition and performance. Chris and Matt have both been accredited by some of the biggest names in music technology being Ableton and Apple Certified Trainers respectively.

The pair are also both founding members of the dBs Music MRG (Modular Research Group) created to carry out research and development around innovative technological approaches to music production and performance. Chris and Matt also develop performance oriented devices as Kinesotronic.
